Dead Man's Island
“I
guess they didn’t make it. It’s a darn shame. I understand folks are
still looking for them, but there’s no way they survived. They’ll
put a halt to the search before long and begin daily patrols around
Dead Man’s until the bodies turn up.”
“Are you pulling my leg?” asked Grisham.
“Absolutely not!” insisted Wes. “Something about the flow of the
currents and Dead Man’s location—it’s common knowledge amongst those
native to the region. Missing bodies frequently wash up on its
shores. I know most believe Dead Man’s Island got its name from the
burial ground, but if you were to ask local Indians, they’ll tell
you that their people only decided to use it as a burial ground
after bodies kept washing up on its shores. Longtime captains of the
region will verify what I say is the truth.”
