About Book Two

Having spent fall and winter refurbishing Luminescence, the sailing yacht acquired the previous summer, The Island Gang is ready for summer. Departing Raft Island, they plot a course certain to lead them into the heart of the origin of the Legend of Walking Stick; the only legend from Grisham’s treasure box said to have its origin in the San Juan Islands.

A fierce storm forces The Island Gang to set anchor in Fossil Bay, just shy of their intended destination. The following morning, Gary is on deck when he hears something bumping up against the hull of the boat. Using a hook fastened to the end of a broom handle, Gary retrieves the mystery item . It’s a mask! A wooden mask!

When Gary pulls the mask to his face, the adventure begins. He is immediately swept into the storm of the previous evening where he sees how the mask came to be floating on the water. The mask belongs to none other than Harley; the same Harley he, Travis, and Wendy witnessed buying drugs in the tunnel the previous year. Shocked, he removes the mask and mentally sorts through the event he has just witnessed. Gary decides to keep the mask to himself, but tells Grisham about the vision he has seen and convinces him to take The Island Gang north into the Gulf Islands.

While docked in Lyall Harbor, Gary and Wendy board Lost Change and set out across the harbor. Following premonitions related to Gary’s vision, they end up at the Paine Mansion, a historic site that has been sitting undisturbed for over a century. Though buried in overgrowth, the mansion has recently been discovered by a developer planning to clear the property and build an island retreat.

Gary and Wendy explore the mansion and discover a replica of The Blue Diamond, a tall ship built inside the great room of the old mansion. Exploring further, they discover more masks on the deck of the ship.  This time both Gary and Wendy experience the mysterious magic of the masks as they pull them up to their faces.

Clues from visions while at the mansion lead Gary and Wendy to press Grisham into taking them further north, assuring him that the secret to the magic found in the masks will be revealed by an ancient Native American living on Gabriola Island.

Just as they get within striking distance of the village, however, Gary turns up missing. Having gotten involved in something bigger than he ever imagined, he finds himself trapped and helplessly out of touch with his friends.

Will The Island Gang find him in time? Get Legend of the Masks today and discover the answer.
